Is It Time to Upgrade to a New Home?

April 1, 2020

Are you considering moving to a bigger home or looking for a nicer neighbourhood? No matter how much you love your current home, homeowners are often thinking of how nice it would be to upgrade. The question is, is it the right time for you to do so? Here are some things to consider that will help you decide.

First, make a list of the practical reasons why it might be time to move up. Is your family growing? Would you like to be closer to schools or to a new job? Do you need better access to nature or hobbies that you enjoy?

Next, consider the emotional reasons why you want to move. Perhaps you’re longing for a sense of belonging and security that your current home or neighbourhood don’t offer you. Or maybe you’re looking for a house that has better space for hosting, gathering, and making memories with friends and family.

Lastly – and most importantly – dive in to your current financial situation and determine whether an upward move is affordable for you. You’ll need to understand the average price of homes in your desired neighbourhood, how much mortgage you can afford, and what your property will sell for in today’s market.

With all of these considerations in mind, you should have a much clearer picture of your reasons for moving as well as your financial ability to do so. If the practical and emotional reasons make sense, and you can afford to make the move, then you have your answer: the time to move is now!

Sometimes the picture might still be a little unclear, especially when it comes to understanding the current real estate market and how much your home might sell for. This is where it’s important to have a trusted real estate professional on your side. We’d be more than happy to help – give us a call today.
